Brunswick Bowling Partner Centers Are Winners of 2020 Bowler's Journal Architecture + Design Awards

MUSKEGON, Mich., December 14, 2020 – Many of the winners of the 36th annual Bowler's Journal Architecture + Design Awards chose Brunswick Bowling as their bowling partner, according to Bowler’s Journal International (BJI).

“We’re fortunate to work with dedicated proprietors around the world, including those who have been recognized with these design awards,” said Dave Sella, VP International Sales. “Brunswick is the supplier of choice for center owners seeking product innovation, quality, and exceptional service.”

Winners of this year’s awards included the only US university facility operated exclusively for use by its bowling team, along with FECs and boutique centers from Maine to Arizona and Europe to South America.

The Husker Bowling Center at the University of Nebraska, winner of the Best Modernized Center (Traditional, US) award, has been credited with helping the team take five national championship titles since 2003. The center was gutted for a major renovation that provided expanded locker rooms, coaches offices, lounge, and pro shop. The Huskers now practice their championship skills on six Brunswick Pro lanes equipped with Sync scoring and StringPin™ pinsetters.

It was a big year for bowling in Colombia, with two centers there winning accolades. Mega Bowling Valledupar was recognized as winner of the Best New Center (FEC). The center features children’s amenities including painting and indoor playground, as well as an elegant bar and lounge for the adults. Mega Bowling is equipped with 10 Brunswick lanes, StringPin pinsetters, and Sync scoring and management system. Meanwhile in Medellin, a long day’s drive southwest of Valledupar, La Industria was named Best New Center (Boutique, International), as the distinctive aesthetic caught the eye of BJI judges. The center boasts 11 Brunswick lanes, GSX pinsetters, and Sync.

Guests continue to seek out unique activities, as evidenced by the inclusion in this year’s awards of two centers that offer Duckpin Social, Brunswick’s innovative take on ten-pin duckpin bowling. Royal Lanes in Peachtree City, GA, took Best New Center (Boutique, US) honors as they showcase two stories offering six lanes of Duckpin Social, 10 Brunswick lanes of traditional bowling, shuffleboard, foosball, arcade, and more.

Best Modernized Center accolades went to Skyline Social and Games in Duluth, MN. “We wanted to take a traditional bowling center and make the whole facility a professional, cutting-edge FEC,” co-owner Corey Kolquist told BJI. They’ve succeeded beautifully, not only renovating the interior design but adding seven Duckpin Bowling lanes along with craft cocktails and new menu items. The center also offers 22 Brunswick lanes, virtual reality, bocce, and volleyball.

Other winners include:

  • Best New Center (Interior, US): Mavrix, Scottsdale, AZ
  • Best New Center (Boutique, US): Royal Lanes, Peachtree City, GA
  • Best New Center (Best Lounge/Restaurant, US): River Lanes, Bethel, ME
  • Best New Center Exterior: Diamond Bowl, St. Louis, France
